Appropriate Attire For Todays Wedding Mother
Planning a wedding can be a stressful event on the wedding couple. The stress of anticipating the event can also be stressful on the couples mothers. Mother of the bride and groom dresses are one of the top concerns of todays wedding mothers. Mothers of the bride dresses are becoming more versatile and casual. Mothers can choose almost anything to wear to the event and still look appropriate. The trick to the whole choice however, is to get pre-approval from the bride.
Thirty years ago, when a young lady became engaged, her mother and the groom-to-bes mother planned the entire event. The young couple had very little input into the affair and usually just went along with anything the mothers chose. This was done more out of respect than anything else, and considering the parents always paid for the wedding, then it was reasonable.
Today however, brides are more independent than ever. They make all of the choices themselves and often times contribute to the wedding bill. With times changing, so is the role of the wedding mothers. They are still respected as always, but their role in the wedding has become less prominent than in the past.
When choosing mother of the bride dresses, it is often a good idea for the bride to take all of the mothers involved shopping. Getting everyone together for one trip is ideal, however as long as the bride knows what each person is wearing, she can coordinate accordingly. Some brides could care less what the mothers wear, and that is fine as well. But for the bride who wants everything coordinated, this is the best option.
Mother of the bride dresses are becoming more and more casual. For a summer or spring wedding, mother of the bride dresses are appearing more in pink, lavender, and yellow solids and prints. Most mothers look best in flowing lines with light material. More sophisticated mothers may choose to forgo the mother of the bride dresses and instead choose a soft colored mother of the bride suit. A pant suit or skirt suit is appropriate as long as it is in light colors.
Mother of the bride dresses should never be in the shade of white or ivory. Mothers should steer clear of these colors, as should any wedding guests. Wearing white or ivory to a wedding is a horrible disgrace to the bride. It is her special day, and she should be the only person in these colors. Mothers should be especially careful with the color choices. Black or other dark colors are fine for evening weddings, or more formal weddings, however light colors work best in daytime and casual weddings.
The hemline for mother of the bride dresses is pretty straightforward. Mother of the bride dresses should never come above the knee. It is inappropriate for a mother of the bride or groom to wear a short skirt or dress to the wedding.
No matter which mother of the bride dresses are chosen by the mothers, the bride will always have final say in the matter. After all, todays independent bride gets exactly what she wants. Mothers, be prepared!
