Yellow Flower Girl Dress
Brianna and the Yellow Flower Girl Dress
Brianna woke up early on the morning of June fourteenth.
She was happy and excited because she knew that it was
her sisters Big Day. That was how her parents always
talked about it. Next week is Jennas big day, her mom
would say.
Her father was more prone to saying things like Jennas
big day is costing me a fortune. Brianna was only six
years old, but she knew that her father meant he was
spending a lot of money. She knew that he wasnt mad
about it, though. He always looked like he was happy for
Jenna, who was getting married today.
Brianna was going to be the flower girl in the wedding
ceremony and she couldnt wait to walk down the aisle in
her yellow flower girl dress with the little white bows
and the frilly skirt. This was Jennas Big Day, but in
her mind it was kind of like it was her Big Day too.
Brianna had practiced the way she would walk down the
aisle over and over again, just like her mother told her
she should do it. It was a big responsibility to be the
flower girl in a yellow flower girl dress, her mother
told her.
She didnt know the word responsibility, but she thought
it meant something very important. She kept hoping that
Big Bird and Elmo would maybe teach her how to spell
responsibility, but they never did. Still, she was
determined to do her best to be the flower girl because
it was such a big responsibility.
She got out of bed and looked at the yellow flower girl
dress hanging in her closet. It was the most beautiful
dress she ever saw. She knew she wasnt supposed to
touch it at all until it was time to go to the wedding,
but she just had to.
She took it out of the closet and was going to bring it
to her bed when she bumped against her little desk.
Shed been painting with her watercolors the day before
and left the water, all stained with paint from her
brushes, on the desk. Now the water cup seemed to jump
into the air and in a moment the yellow flower girl
dress had a dark wet blotch right in the middle.
Big responsibility. Jennas Big Day.
Mom! Brianna screamed, tears stating to flow from her
eyes. Mom! Help! I messed up the yellow flower girl
dress Im sooooo sorrrrrryyyy
Brianna was crying fully when her mother came into the
room. She was not worried about the trouble she was sure
to be in, only that she had failed in her big
responsibility and messed up Jennas Big Day before it
really got started. She was sure that the yellow flower
girl dress was ruined.
Her mother took her in her arms and soothed her, telling
her it would be okay and the dress was washable. Soon
everything was all right and that evening Brianna got to
play her part in her sister Jennas Big Day and walk
down the aisle in the nice and clean yellow flower girl
dress.
